B'rukhim ha-ba-eem b'shem Adonai; berakhnukhem mee-bayt Adonai.
Blessed are you who have come in God's name; in God's spirit we bless you.
May God, the Source of life and goodness, sustain you in life.
May you be inspired by all that is noble and true.
May you live your days together in a community of peace.
May the covenant which you are creating, enrich and ennoble your lives.
May you enjoy together the gifts of devotion, friendship, and peace.
May you rejoice in the sweetness of that union which is founded on dedication and commitment, on duty and mutual self-consecration.
And may your lives be bound together with an everlasting love.
In the presence of God and these witnesses, as you stand ready to join your lives together, respond in faithfulness:
_______, do you of your own free will and consent, take _______ to be your life-long companion; and do you promise to love, honor and cherish him/her throughout life?
_______, do you of your own free will and consent, take _______
to be your life-long companion; and do you promise to love, honor and cherish him/her throughout life?
(Cup of wine or juice is raised)
As we raise this cup, we are deeply grateful for the physical and spiritual bounties of life. Blessed is God, by whose power the fruit of the vine is created.
Barukh atta Adonai, Elohaynu melekh ha-olam, boray p'ree ha-gaffen.
(The couple take sips from the cup)
As together you now drink from this cup, so may you, in perfect union and devotion to each other, draw contentment, comfort, and happiness from the cup of life. Thereby may you find life's joys doubly gladdening, its bitterness sweetened, and all things hallowed by true companionship and love.
I ask you now to speak these words words as you exchange the rings that consecrate you each to the other.
(Spoken to a woman) Ha-RAY AT mekuDEH-shet LEE be-aha-VAT o-LAM. Be consecrated to me on this day in everlasting love.
(Spoken to a man) Ha-RAY a-TA mekuDASH LEE be-aha-VAT o-LAM. Be consecrated to me on this day in everlasting love.
These circular rings, which have neither beginning nor end, symbolize your union, which binds your lives together by dedication and faithfulness that have no end. Truly, then, will these rings celebrate the words of Scripture:
"Wear me as a seal upon your heart,
As a seal upon your arm;
For love is infinitely strong...
Many waters cannot quench love;
No flood can sweep it away."
And now that you have spoken the words and performed the rituals that bind your lives together, I declare your marriage to be valid and binding. May your years be good and long upon the earth, and may God bless you forever.
